Beto Lugo Martinez
CleanAirNow!
Executive Director
Beto Lugo-Martinez is a community organizer and executive director of the frontline, environmental justice organization, CleanAirNow in Kansas City. Through grassroots organizing he leads an equitable conversation working toward a fossil fuel free future by identifying zero emissions technologies and reducing greenhouse gas emissions that inequitably impact frontline communities. He serves to raise community voices in the fight against environmental racism and to overcome systematic exclusion of frontline communities from local, state and federal decision making. His contributions include developing and deploying the largest community based air monitoring network in the country, and utilizing the data provided to drive statewide policy change in California. Has co-authored publications reporting on community based participatory research interventions and is a founding member of the California Environmental Justice Coalition, a grassroots organization led by people of color and low income communities and is a member of multiple national and regional EJ and CJ coalitions, including the Moving Forward Network. For many years, Beto has been leading the fight to clean up a PetroChemical Facility adjacent to his childhood home in California.
